Designing, evaluating, and implementing digital public health interventions

Digital public health interventions have great potential for enhancing population health, yet are complex, quickly evolving, and provide unique challenges. This 5-day summer school, hosted by the Leibniz ScienceCampus Digital Public Health Bremen (LSC DiPH), will provide participants with a broad overview of the design, evaluation, and implementation of digital public health interventions.

Course dates: 18 to 22 August 2025

Location: University of Bremen, Germany

Attendance: in-person only

Tuition fee: 400 Euro per person (more below)

Travel grants: available (more below)

Course level: master's students, PhD candidates, and professionals from all disciplines with an interest in digital public health

Language of course: English

Forms of tuition: lectures, seminars, and hands-on group activities

Assessment: Group presentation at the end of the summer school

Course workload: 40 hours (5 days) and 15 selfstudy hours, equivalent to 3 ECTS

Course Curriculum

  • Researchers currently working on or planning to work with digital public health interventions.
  • Students undertaking a Master’s or PhD in Public Health, Psychology, Human-Computer-Interaction, Epidemiology, or related disciplines wishing to further their knowledge of digital public health interventions.

  • Professionals wishing to take on an evidence-based perspective to their work with digital public health interventions.

Tuition Fee and Travel Grants

Tuition fee

The tuition fee of 400 Euro per participant includes: 

  • Application and registration
  • Exclusive course content for all summer school participants
  • Literature list to prepare participants for the summer school
  • A certificate of attendance after completing the course, including the obtained ECTS
  • The full support of the summer school team before, during, and after the summer school
  • Lunch and coffee breaks for each of the five days
  • Rental bike for the five days
  • Optional social activities (e.g., a guided social activity in Bremen, and a summer school dinner)

Please note that accommodation and travel are not included in the costs. The organization team is happy to provide participants with a few recommendations for different accommodation options nearby.

Travel Grants

Travel grants of 500 Euro (applicants from inside Europe) or 1.000 Euro (applicants from outside Europe) will be provided to selected participants. In addition, travel grant recipients do not pay tuition fees. These grants are available for participants who …

  • are early career researchers working in academia (defined as not having a PhD title or those having their title for a maximum of 6 years) and
  • do not have adequate funding to cover the participation and travel costs on their own or by their institution (e.g., students, PhD-candidates with a scholarship, or individuals without a full-time-contract)

The Leibniz ScienceCampus Digital Public Health Bremen promotes the qualification of women in the science and practice of digital public health. For this reason, travel grants are awarded preferentially to women and persons who identify as female, provided they meet the same criteria as applicants with another gender.
Not applicable for travel grants are applicants …

  • who classify as senior professionals (e.g., professors or researchers who have completed their PhD more than 6 years ago)
  • with a full-position working in a high-income country
  • who have adequate funding to cover the participation and travel costs on their own or by their institution

Cancellation policy

If participants have been accepted to the Leibniz ScienceCampus Digital Public Health Summer School and have paid the tuition fee, but due to unforeseen circumstances, need to cancel, the following refunds will be given:

  • Cancellation before 31 June (23:59 CET): 100% of the total fee will be refunded
  • Cancellation between 1 July and 27 July (23:59 CET): 50% of the total fee will be refunded
  • Cancellation after 28 July: no refund will be given

*If the Leibniz ScienceCampus Digital Public Health cancels the course because the minimum course participants have not been reached or due to other circumstances, a full refund will be given.

During the registration, we will ask you to describe your experience with digital public health interventions, why you choose this summer school and what do you hope to gain from this course. Please do not send any application material to us via email or post, and only use the link to apply for our summer school.
If you wish to apply for a travel grant, please have the following material prepared in one pdf-file before you start the registration process:

  • your curriculum vitae
  • a scientific poster OR a maximum 1-page long abstract displaying your current work in digital public health 

We will only review applications until 1 February 2025 and contact all applicants until 1 March 2025 to let you know whether your application has been successful. Our team will then support you regarding the next steps.
